Our Literature curriculum is essentially our reading lists. It is so crucial to read to children aloud that I would argue any other type of "literature instruction" is superfluous at this age. I'm not an expert - just a homeschool mom, but here's my point: the goal in these early years is to encourage a love of reading (which, paired with some phonics instruction, will lead to them learning to read) and a thirst for knowledge. The best way to do those things is to read to them. Of course, talking about the text is part of reading, but do not feel compelled to create lesson plans for each book. Just read. :) The message to the child is: "Reading is fun" and "Reading is a part of daily life."
These lists are a combination of suggested reading by grade by Veritas Press and my personal combing through the public library. Another great resource for finding quality literature (with reviews) is The Best Children's Books.org. My only complaint is that you cannot search books by grade, however, they have a nice listing of Caldecott and Newbery winners by year as well as listings by subject.
