Whatcha Teachin'?: Field Trip to the Zoo (with Zoo Passport Printable!)

Our family recently spent some time in Michigan (visiting the rest of our family...) but I decided that was no reason to take a break from school.  Although we weren't at a table with paper and pencil, we got to go on a few field trips; Air Time Trampoline Park, Apple Charlie's Apple Orchard (you'll soon be seeing a post on the delicious pie that came from this one!), and our favorite, the Toledo Zoo.
My cousin sent me the idea of a zoo passport and I found a great printable on Disney Family. I quickly realized it would be best to do this at home after the zoo instead of stopping as we saw each animal. The boys loved it; it was a nice was to recap and talk about our favorite parts of the zoo.

Since the point of our trip was to visit family, we decided to bring a few of them along...
The zoo is a classic field trip and for a good reason; it's fun for all ages and very educational.
We worked on map skills...
We got to ride a train through an "African safari"...
And of course, see the animals, like...
Polar Bears,
Bald Eagles,
and the family favorite, the Lemurs,
...just to name a few

As fun as that is, there's more to do at the zoo than just look at animals.

We walked through a gorgeous butterfly garden...
got to wear a cool new hat...
watch bees make honey and climb a life-sized honeycomb...
play in a kids only climbing area...
and even pet a real snake!
If you and your family haven't had the chance to visit your local zoo this year, now's the perfect time.  The weather is getting a little cooler and the animals are waiting for you!
